Dorottya Ujszaszi, “DOTTY” is one of the most exciting additions to the salsa scene.
Dancer and Choregrapher
She was born in Hungary but spent the early part of her childhood in Santiago, Cuba. At a young age she was introduced to ballet and ballroom dancing, which were her main styles of dance until she finished studying at the Professional Ballet School of Ballet Gyor. There she won “T best graduated dancer in Hungary 2002” award, and became the number one ranked couple in the Latin Ballroom Raking List in 2001 with her partner, Andras Faluvegi. After the school she joined Budapest Dance Theatre for 4 years directed by Béla Földi, and became one of the main dancers. They were touring around Europe, Italy, France, Holland and Israel. She spent impressive years with Badora Dance Company Eger, where she was the main character of the Nutcracker, and had some experience in acting too. From 2006 she was working alongside dancing as a Stott Pilates Personal Trainer at the Balance Studio Budapest.
At the beginning of 2010 she moved to London, where she met Leon Rose, and a few months later joined the Paris based “Leon Rose Project”. Within a short space of time she has already traveled extensively with the Project performing their “Manteca” and “Backstage” routines. Salsa was always a part of her life since she finished the ballroom dances, but she committed herself to the “NY/LA” styles since she moved to London.
Dotty has choreographed a few contemporary pieces in Hungary, such as ’One body with two souls’, which was the early stages of her own style called ’Consla’. Presently she is working on developing the techniques, which are an interesting fusion of contemporary, contact and salsa dancing based in Paris.
